Red-spotted Patch (Chlosyne marina)
Wing span: 1 5/16 - 1 3/8 inches (3.3 - 3.5 cm).
Identification: Upperside black. Forewing has white-to-yellowish spots; hindwing has an irregular yellow patch and a red submarginal band.
Life history: Not reported.
Flight: Late October in South Texas, most of the year in Mexico.
Caterpillar hosts: Not reported.
Adult food: Flower nectar.
Habitat: Openings in desert and subtropical thorn scrub.
Range: Mexico. Rare stray to southern Arizona and South Texas.
Conservation: Not required for rare stray.
