Goodson's Greenstreak (Cyanophrys goodsoni [Clench])
Wing span: 7/8 - 1 1/8 inches (2.2 - 3 cm).
Identification: Tailless. Face green. Upperside silver-blue. Underside yellow-green; hindwing with one red-brown spot at lower outer margin.
Life history: Eggs are laid singly on flowers of host plant.
Flight: From May-December in South Texas, February-December in Central America.
Caterpillar hosts: Herb Rivinia humilis in the Phytolaccaceae family.
Adult food: Flower nectar.
Habitat: Thorn scrub and edges of seasonally dry tropical forest.
Range: Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica north to eastern Mexico and South Texas (stray).
Conservation: Not required for rare stray.
The Nature Conservancy Global Rank: G4 - Apparently secure globally, though it might be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.
Management needs: None reported.
